The real question is why they made it that way in the first place, which I guess is to punish people who wanted to play on easy by cutting out half the game for them.

Square might also be taking sales considerations into mind with this. The FF13 games had big drop offs in sales, for example, so they might fear that making too many FF7R games could result in the later ones not selling as well as the earlier ones. I think they'll try not to make more than four games, and there's still a decent chance we'll get three, but I guess we'll see.

Cuphead has the worst easy mode of any game I've played.

Valkyrie Profile ironically gets easier the higher you set the difficulty.

Ys 8 is still Falcom's best-selling game AFAIK, and even that's not really big.

Maybe the thing that makes Trails feel "big" is that most of the people who play it play a lot of the games? Like with a lot of breakout hits, people just play the new one, but with Trails there are more people playing 7+ games in the series.

What? XV's characters were awful. Possibly not the biggest problem with the game, but up there for sure. The side characters were a little better at least, but the main party was ass.

I'm not as high on T&T as most because I didn't love its heavy focus on the overarching narrative. The individual cases are a blur to me, and nothing stands out in my memory other than Godot being a phenomenal antagonist.

Basically I preferred the "loosely connected batch of standalone stories" feel of the first two games.

3-2 and 3-3 are totally standalone!

Nier is certainly the most drastic example however if we count it as a franchise at only two games, the original did nothing and the sequel, Automata, has sold nearly six million copies. It is Square Enixs highest selling game since FFXV.

DQ11 was over 6 million before S got ported to PS4/XB1/PC, so that's definitely above Automata. FF7R's probably above it too (it hit 5 million early August last year).

The first Metal Gear sold over a million copies here, so I dunno if that fits. It was big enough to get an America-only sequel made.

I don't know that Katamari ever became "big." I guess it would depend on how you define it. Like, would Ace Attorney be considered "big" now?

AA's an interesting one. I think it actually did get a lot more mainstream when the trilogy came out, since we know from the leak that it sold ~800K, mostly in the West I think, which is more than any of the previous games sold? GAA was advertised as Capcom's big game at E3, too.

Dragon Quest would fit the "At least, in the West." part, since DQ11 was the first one to be a big hit here.

Atelier got a lot more mainstream with Ryza, if that's big enough.

Bound Together is a great song for getting people to check out your game! I was surprised it was the credits song, the mood feels a bit...light and I thought it would've been perfect as a main theme you hear at the title screen or opening cutscene, with motifs that show up in the rest of the soundtrack!

It sounds a lot like the Hades credits theme, so I'm not surprised to hear that. <_<

I think it was interesting, with the main flaw probably being that it focuses on Gaius? What an uninteresting guy.
